Using Crystals
The term ‘crystals’ is used to describe a large number of minerals, crystals and gemstones from around the world. Crystals form in rocks usually deep beneath the surface of the earth over thousands of years. Their shape and colour is determined my many natural factors e.g. temperature, geology of the area, and volcanic or glacial activity. Some types of crystal occur only in one small region, others throughout the world, hence why some crystals are rarer than others and therefore generally more expensive.
Some people prefer their Crystals in a totally natural state, as they believe the energies are stronger and purer. Generally most crystals in their raw state are rougher and the colours not so vibrant (sometimes completely different).
The term Ore generally refers to minerals made entirely or partly of a metal e.g. Iron Ore (Raw Haematite). Some crystals naturally occur side by side in nature e.g. Malachite and Azurite and therefore one will often see pieces comprising of two or more crystal/rock types.
Others undergo a man-made infusion process to artificially create a hybrid crystal e.g. Aqua Aura is Natural Clear Quartz infused with liquid Gold and has a truly beautiful electric blue colour and its own spiritual and healing characteristics.
Crystals have many uses in our lives -
Decorative ornaments and showpieces e.g. Pyramids and Obelisks.
Jewellery e.g. Pendants.
Colour therapy.
Crystal Healing, Reiki, Homeopathy and Gem Elixirs.
Massage Points for Reflexology or Reiki.
Window Crystals improve the Feng Shui of your living or working space.
Clearing negative energy from a living or workspace.
Spiritual development and ritual/magical use, e.g. Wands.
Meditation.
How To Cleanse Your Crystal
Many people believe before a crystal is used for healing or meditation purposes the crystal should be cleansed, to remove the influences of other people from it. Some people then choose to wrap the crystal in a dark cloth/pouch, others not – the choice is yours.
This cleansing process should not be used for minerals/crystals with a metallic content e.g. Haematite, Iron Pyrite, Magnetite or Peacock Ore (Chalcopyrite/Bornite) or on metal jewellery and pendulum components. Sulphur and Natural Unpolished Fuchsite should not be cleansed using this method. Please note this list is not definitive.
2. Do not dry the crystal, instead place it where it will absorb the light of the sun and moon. Leave the crystal preferably outdoors (or on a window sill) for 24 hours, so it absorbs a full cycle of sun and moonlight. If the weather is wet during this time, you can dry your crystal with a clean cloth after 24 hours.
3. Then, if you wish wrap the crystal in a dark cloth or pouch. Velvet or silk are ideal materials. Velvet Pouches are available from 9unicorns.com, however most of the crystals for sale in our web shop have one supplied, free of charge (see individual listings).
